Gevorg Kostanyan presents Armenian arguments about the case “Chingiz Asgarov against Armenia”

On January 22 European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) completed hearings on issue “Chingiz Asgarov against Armenia”.

After the hearings Panorama.am correspondent spoke with the Armenian Government representative, Armenian chief prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan.  

According to Kostanyan, Armenian side presented really serious arguments during the hearings and Azerbaijani side was not ready to answer them.  

“We were convinced by the way of their answers that they were not ready to answer and be against of our arguments. We paid attention on two main issues. First, Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) is an independent state despite the international recognition and Artsakh has all necessary branches of the government. So the claims about “Armenian effect” on that territory are baseless. And the second, even if the applicants claim that the Republic of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh Republic violated refugees’ rights, they should certainly apply to the NKR or Armenian courts in order to restore their violated rights”, said G. Kostanyan. 

Now both sides have 2 weeks to present the final attitude about the issue.
